Eco Friendly Studio
I am always evolving as an artist and I am keen on being enviromentally friendly as possible. I am always open to tips and suggestions. But here is a simple list of things I do to try and eliminate waste, recycle and be consious of the enviroment.
-I use a water bucket to collect my dirty paint water to let it evaporate, the sludge is then thrown out to avoid dumping acrylic down the drain and into the water system. I do have a couple buckets. During the winter months, there is a bucket in my studio but during the other seasons, it's outdoors.
-As I am painting, I wipe my brushes with old clothing blocks or strips that can be disposed of. Cuts down on water use. I will also save all acrylic waste in containter to take the the eco centre.
-Everything that can be recycled, is. I make sure cardboard, packaging etc is all disposed of properly. Or I reuse as much as possible.
-I generally use a palette instead of waste made from palette paper or the like. With a palette, I scrap off the dried on paint sporadically and dispose of.
-Varnish, spray paint (I use Liquidex) etc is low solvent but still contains propellants, as do their different spray varnishes. I keep my space well ventilated and - as they are low odor and non-toxic - all you need is a paper mask to protect you from inhaling paint particles and dust. Regular solvent-based sprays require a proper ant-fume mask that straps on tightly and covers your nose and mouth.
